Sometimes I'm a little surprised to see parents posting inappropriate things on facebook. By inappropriate, I mean, they're arguing, name calling or being downright rude and disrespectful to others. What sort of message is this sending to their kids?
Thankfully, I don't see it a lot. But it does happen. Sometimes they are arguing about heated issues such as gun control or politics and it turns nasty. At other times it is outright slander and name calling. And at other times it is a more provocative statement that says something like, "I sure wish SOME PEOPLE would stop running their mouths about me." I can't help but wonder, if you say these things online for the whole world to see, what are you saying and doing behind close doors?
And just what are these sorts of things teaching kids? Whether your kids are old enough to read your facebook posts or not, they are still learning from your behavior. They see how you treat other people, how you interact with others and how you respond when your feelings are hurt.
Parents need to remember how to be a good role model for children. Kids imitate their parents, especially the same sex parent. And they'll learn far more from what you say than what you do.
