If you were to ask parents whether or not kids have it harder or easier today than they did growing up, you might get a variety of answers. Many people feel like kids have it way too easy. While others, will quickly say, kids face way more problems these days.
Although technology is supposed to make life easier, it certainly complicates things for kids. Cyberbullying wasn't a problem 25 years ago. But child labor laws have been invented.
While past generations were often focused on meeting their basic needs, in today's world parents are often accused of spoiling their kids. Not just with material possessions either. Many people think kids just don't have it tough enough.
If the going gets tough for your child, do you step in and fix things? If he is having problems with his teacher, do you step in? If he doesn't like the sport he's playing, do you allow your child to quit?
Are we raising a generation of wimpy kids who won't be able to handle the real world? Some people think so. There's definitely a balance that needs to be struck. Kids need to be prepared for the real world, but they don't need to suffer unnecessary hardship either.
