The announcement comes as welcome news to non-smoker who want to enjoy free movies at Atlantic Station's Central Park and enjoy the outdoors without a trail of tobacco following them down to IKEA.
According to the article, a Facebook poll indicated the community overwhelmingly wants a smoke-free shopping and entertainment experience. It will be the first anti-smoking ban in Atlanta of its okind for public spaces and will go into effect within the next few weeks.
According to the Atlantic Station blog, general manager David Anderson stated, "We want Atlantic Station to be a place where families can enjoy themselves and we'd love to see Midtown become an even healthier community."
I lived in New York when a city-wide smoking ban went into effect for public parks and spaces. And there's no smoking in their bars regardless if they serve food or not. I admit I enjoy a smoke free environment but can understand why some will shun Atlantic Station for its Atlanta stance.
