To follow up on the new strawberry frozen dessert recipes that I've been posting, I decided to add on an idea for a topping. One of my favorite simple fruit toppings is macerated fruit. In particular, I love macerated strawberries.
The other day, I made a strawberry semifreddo and topped it with a heaping pile of macerated strawberries. That's the picture along with this blog post. Doesn't it look amazing? The little bit of sugar and lemon juice really made an impact on the flavor of the strawberries. The soft texture also worked perfectly with the frozen, sweet semifreddo.
Most berries can be macerated. Actually, most fruits can be macerated. Peeling them and slicing them into bite-sized chunks is a great way to give them a head start. Then use your favorite citrus juice and sugar to turn them into a fruit syrup that is soft and sweet.
