I used to love processing rebates. I know this is a weird thing to say, since most people deplore the work of cutting off the UPC symbol, filling out the form, and highlighting the item on the receipt (and they almost always specified that it had to be the original receipt, striking fear into the minds of us over what could happen to it between the house and the destination). I always enjoyed the feeling of doing that extra "work" to then hopefully collect a check in the mail within the next few weeks, although in reality it usually took at least a month.
It's now a rare occasion to be offered a rebate, unless it's on a big-ticket item like a computer, since many of those discounts are given using mobile apps.
For instance, instead of a rebate, I can often gather enough CheckPoints during each visit to the store to qualify me for a $1.00 Amazon gift card. Likewise, I can get "virtual" rebates by purchasing participating products and uploading my receipt to the ibotta app, which will then generate cash rewards for me directly into my bank account.
