Pick up any parenting magazine (or just about any women's magazine for that matter) and you'll find lots of advice on how to raise your child. With so much advice out there, how is a parent to know what is really the best way to discipline a child?

Some experts say "Talk to your child a lot," while other experts say, "Don't talk too much and don't lecture your child."

Ask a grandmother what she thinks about today's parenting and she might say "Your child just needs a good old fashioned spanking." However, ask an expert about spanking and they'll most likely tell you it could damage your child for life.

There are lots of opinions out there about whether parents are too soft or too tough, too structured or too free-style, too touchy-feely or too detached...the list could go on and on.

With so many different opinions on how to raise kids, what's a parent to do? The good news is, it's up to you to choose how you raise your child. It makes sense to look into the different types of discipline, however, in the end, it's important to make a decision based on what is best for your family.
