Parenting Strategies to Combat Obesity

The CDC released the latest updates on childhood obesity. Many states are seeing a slight decline in childhood obesity. Despite this decline, 1 out of every 8 preschoolers is still considered obese.

It's unclear what is helping contribute to the decline in obesity. It's likely a combination of factors ranging from improved nutrition at preschool to better parenting education about obesity.

Since parents control what food is in the house and how much children eat, discipline plays a big role in helping kids manage their weight. That means limiting their food intake and increasing their physical activity.

I recently interviewed Dr. Robert Ziltzer, a medical weight loss doctor in Arizona. He offered a variety of tips on discipline strategies to prevent obesity.
