6 Ways Facebook Has Changed Politics

Facebook played an essential role in the election of President Barack Obama in 2008. It's election time again and Facebook is clearly included in the strategy of every candidate.

There are several new politically themed Facebook apps including "MyVote," "I'm Voting" and "Wisdom." Facebook also launched a political action committee (PAC). The goal of the Facebook PAC: "Facebook PAC will give our employees a way to make their voice heard in the political process by supporting candidates who share our goals of promoting the value of innovation to our economy, while giving people the power to share and make the world more open and connected."

But Facebook has also played a role in helping motivate and mobilize people around political issues. People are using Facebook as a way to get the word out about causes and organized events.
