The 2012 NBA season looks to be the league's most exciting in years and the NBA is on the cutting edge of social media. I looked at all 30 of the NBA teams Facebook pages to see how they use social media to interact with their fans. Each teams Facebook page offers breaking news, exclusive photos, in-depth analysis and interesting story-lines.

Overall, the NBA teams utilize their Facebook pages to uniquely engage fans on a regular basis. The teams almost all include some type of "Shop" application, which leads fans to purchase gear online, as well as some type of "Tickets" application, allowing easy ticket purchasing. Timeline cover photos featuring different players available for download are also common among the NBA teams Facebook pages.

The number of "Likes" does not mean a team is better at engaging fans. Take the Portland Trail Blazers, they do an exceptional job at fan engagement and utilizing their Facebook page to its full potential. The team's page includes a Pinterest and an Instagram tab, as well as video and live updates on their news feed. The New York Knicks are also on their A-game when it comes to being the best on Facebook. With over 2 million "likes", they do a great job of utilizing their page for fan engagement and fun games, as well as also integrating their social media accounts through Facebook.

Take a look at how all the NBA teams use Facebook to engage their fans. I ranked the teams based on the number of "Likes" of their Facebook Pages.
