People who consider Facebook's new Android software intrusive but want an easier way to message their pals on the network should consider downloading the standalone "Facebook Messenger" app.
Facebook Messenger is a free mobile messaging and chat app for smart phones that lets people send text messages, hold group chats, share photos or videos, and even make voice calls to their Facebook pals. The app is available for iPhone, Android and BlackBerry phones. It's been upgraded repeatedly over the past year and now offers free VOIP calling and free text messaging, both of which can bypass call and text limits on a cell phone plan.
