During her years in Paris Elsa began to design and make clothes with the encouragement from established French Couturer Paul Poiret.

In 1927 Schiaparelli started her own house, the House of Schiaparelli. Among some of her more famous clients were film stars Marlene Dietrich, Greta Garbo.

Before her death in November 13, 1973 Elsa wrote an autobiography Shocking Life, that detailed her life and career especially her relationships with surrealist artists Salivador Dali and Man Ray.
