The Imperial Designs of John Galliano

One of the first fashion runways I had the pleasure of seeing was a John Galliano - Dior Couture show. This breathtaking collection was inspired by the old world grandeur of the imperial court of the Austro-Hungarian Empire.

This stunning display of the mastery of French couture is the embodiment of John Galliano design. Led by model Karolina Kurkova, this visual narrative told the story of fin-de-siecle (end of the century) princesses as they paraded themselves before the imperial court competing for precedence in outrageously ornate couture gowns, their crowns askew with effort.

"I went on a research trip to Vienna, and then got looking at Egon Schiele, and Empress Sisi, and Russie!" said John Galliano on the inspiration behind his collection.
