Recently I had the pleasure of sitting down with designer Alexis Frey, where I got a behind-the-scenes look at her line, Life/After/Denim.
JH - How did you get into fashion design?
AF - My first job as a teenager was at my dad's office in the Empire State Building in Manhattan, answering phones and steaming garments. Over the years in New York I learned from technical designers, merchandisers, and product developers. I also worked retail. After college my mind was set on learning the garment business inside and out. I moved to Hong Kong for two years and spent months in China working for and learning from factory managers, sewers, technicians, and engineers. I'm so grateful.
So be sure to check out Alexis's latest creation from Life/After/Denim - a festive combination of a sweater and blazer, an 'Avalanche Blazer.' The quilted pattern and the peak lapel with patch pockets add a fun twist to a winter classic.
