July is National Ice Cream Month

What better way to cool off in the summer than with ice cream? That might be part of why Ronald Reagan designated July as National Ice Cream Month in 1984. For almost 30 years, it has been an official time to celebrate one of the most iconic summer foods. Now you have another great excuse to eat that ice cream cone or sundae.

Why not celebrate the month by challenging yourself to make at least one new ice cream-related recipe in July? Try to recreate your favorite store-bought flavor at home, use the great summer produce for a fruit-flavored ice cream, or put together a composed dessert that features your favorite flavors.

My favorite ice cream recipes are ones that will impress your guests but are actually super simple to put together. After all, there are never enough hours in the day! But, you can put together your own ice cream cake without much effort at all. Or you can create a layered ice cream bombe with three of your favorite ice cream flavors. Even if you are a novice in the kitchen, you can create fun desserts like these.

My philosophy with food is all about getting the most value for my time, whether it is with crock pot dinners or fast dessert ideas. Ice cream can be the same way! Sometimes, the top specialty ice cream brands are just as good (and just as satisfying) as ice cream that you make yourself. Let there be a time and place for both in your life.
