QuestionEdit

i have a 95 New Yorker when i bought it the fuel gauge didn't work but all the rest of the cluster worked. now everything has flat lined, and the climate controls quit working. it is stuck on full heat and defrost, with the blower on about half. it has also recently started to stall at random times. and the mpg has gone down noticeably. i am thinking the body control computer, if so is there a way to get the ac working again until i can get a new bcm?

AnswerEdit

Hi Stew, The ATC unit has self-diagnostic capability which you would want to avail yourself of. With the engine running and in Park, set the temp to 75, then simultaously push and hold the floor, mix, and defrost buttons (1,2, and 4 positions top row), when the display begins to blink then simultaneously release the buttons. Any fault codes will be shown as two-digit number in the range of 23-36. Let me know if any appear, but if one does, then press the panel button (1 position bottom row) to see other codes that may be present. But before doint the above check fuses 6, 11, and 17 in the fuse block under the dash which power the ATC unita and the cluster. As to stalling, turn the ignition key:"on-off-on-off-on and leave on" doing that in 5 seconds or less elapsed time. The watch the check engine light, which remains "on", to see it begin to flash, pause, flash, etc. Count the number of flashes before each pause. Then repeat the process. Then let me know the flash counts in order of appearance. I don't believe the body computer is the issure with the ATC. Please 'rate' my answer (see below). Thanks,

Roland

PS My schedule today is kind of tight due to a neighbor who is in hospice care and close to death. I need to be on call for facilitation of relatives arriving needing transportation from the airport, and the usual activities of Friday. So please be sure that I will respond to a follow-up question, but possibly not until late today or tomorrow. Roiand
