QuestionEdit

How Do you get the timing set. Son Changed water pump and timing bet when it started it was running 4000 rpm?

AnswerEdit

Hi Kevin, The timing of the spark is electronically controlled and not adjustable. The timing marks of the cam sprocketss ahd crankshaft are part of installing the timing belt properly but I would doubt that would if in error cause a high idle rpm. I wonder if the plug for the automatic idle speed motor was removed and then forgotten to be reinstalled. It might also be a vacuum leak around the intake manifold, or a detached vacuum hose, that is being compensated for by adding fuel to make up for the extra air. Other than that, try to get a fault code which might give a hint as to the cause of the problem. Turn the key;"on-off-on-off-on and leave on" doing that in 5 seconds or less elapsed time. Then watch the odometer to see if the mileage reading changes to show a four digit number preceded by a P. Let me know and we'll go from there. Please 'rate' my answer (see below). Thanks, Roland
