220 installation

Want to run 220 to my work shop area. It is about 160 feet from the breaker box. The welder that I would use is 50 amp. I would use a double 50 amp breaker at the box. My question is the wire size to use. I was looking at a 55 amp, 6 awg wire. With a 160 feet distance, will this wire gauge work? Also, may I split off these wires at my work shop to have 120 access?

You can use a 6-4MC. Put a plug in and then get hook up a plug to your welder.
