QuestionEdit

I have a mig welder that has a three prong cord and requires 220 input. I would like to make an extension cord that plugs into my four prong receptacle for my dryer. Is this possible and exactly how would I do it. Thanks for your help.

You can not do that your welder has 2 hot wires and a ground. The dryer outlet has a 4 WIRE SYSTEM 2 HOTS 1 NEUTRAL AND A GROUND.What you can do is add a outlet next to the dryer outlet and pigtail off the dryer the 2 hots and the ground. You will not be able to use both dryer and welder at the same time.
