QuestionEdit

I have upgraded my house from 100 amp to 200 amp service. I would like to add a service panel to my garage. I am going to reuse my 100 amp box. We buried uf 8-3 with a ground from the the house to the garage and reused the 60 amp breaker. Is this correct and how many 220 circuits, lights and receptacles can i use. thanks Curt

AnswerEdit

Curtis

Number 8 wire is only rated for 40 amps so you need to install a 2 pole 40 amp breaker in the house panel. The reason is the wire size needs to be protected, not the panel as it rated up to 100 amps, since you have 40 amps going to it the panel this will be fine. As far as 220 V circuits you need to figure what the amps are on your load.
