Question

I have a bathroom combo fixture and it had the original push button switch until few days ago, Vent fan would not turn off. I want to install three separate rocker switches for each function instead of a single three gang switch. the old wiring consist of two sets of wires White/black coming down from fixture, that are grounded, and one set white/black from main power. I am not sure quite how to tie them all together due to the fact that i had removed several short black wires connecting it all but with the type of old push in switch it was really confusing and didn't make sense. If you have any info as to help me get the fixture back in working condition i would greatly appreciate it and if by some great chance there is a diagram available to view so much the better. thanks jeramy

Answer

switches

You would need to install a 3 gang box, after you do that tie in all the ground together if the box is metal you need to ground it if it is plastic the box doesn't need to be grounded. Now take all the other wires and count them you should have 8 wires left.one of each color black & white. Find the hot wire and the neutral it should be on the same set.Test that to make sure it is a hot wire. When you find the hot wires the rest will be going to each deceive in the fan/light/heater. There is 2 wires which are heaver than the rest those wires are for the heater only.Hook up the whites for the heater together then the other whites together,do not get them mixed up. You should have 4 wires left 1 hot 1 for the heater and 2 for the fan/lite.I Have a diagram with 2 switches just add 1 more.
