QuestionEdit

QUESTION: Hello, tonight something happened to our bathroom fan. it started to work probably when my mother-in-;law turned it on together with the lights in tbhe bathroom and since them we cannot stop it.It doesn't respond to the switch. My husband 1.changed the switch - didn't help. 2. Checked the wires in the attic in case mise chew on it - nothing wrong there. For now we just unplugged it. don't know what to do next. Any help will be apreciated. Thank you in advance, Lilia

ANSWER: Somewhere some wires are touching that should not be. It won't be easy to find them. Did anyone put any nails through the wall recently? Check all the wires from the power source to the fan to make sure no wires are touching. You may need the experience and tools of an electrician to find the problem.

QUESTION: Thank you for your reply. No nails in the walls been put recently. My husband checked the wires where they are visible, he cannot check whatever is under the drywall. Somebody said that maybe we should also change the switch for the lights. If this doesn't help then just find a professonal electrician?

AnswerEdit

Without any nails, it is highly unlikely that there would be a problem in the middle of the wire. Most likely some wires are touching that shouldn't be. However, probably only an electrician can figure out what shouldn't be touching. He would have the right tools to test for the problem. I don't see how the switch for the lights would help, unless a wire stopped touching while changing it.
