QuestionEdit

My bulldog puppy who is generally really full of energy has become listless and lethargic. He is still eating and going to the bathroom well but refuses to drink. I have been feeding him ice chips to get fluids into him until I can get him to the vet tomorrow, but I don't know what could have brought this on so quickly? The only thing I can think of is I gave him a bath and then a while later took him out to go and maybe he could have gotten chilled? Is this possible? What are some things that might cause his drastic change in him?

AnswerEdit

It's hard to say what would cause this. Without looking in his mouth or taking his temperature I am at a loss as you are to why he won't drink.

You say he is eating and eliminating normally, however. Most dogs that get sick stop eating and drinking first off. I doubt if he got sick even if he did get chilled because dogs get wet in the rain all the time when pottying and don't get sick from it.

The only thing I can think of is that he is tired from playing, or he is coming down with a virus. If he was really cold from shivering he could just be really tired.

You didn't say if he is vaccinated or not and that is very important, also you didn't mention his age.

You are doing the right thing getting ice chips down him. Try some gatorade too, some dogs love the stuff. Obviously he needs to see the vet and you said you had an appointment for tomorrow for him, which is good. In the meantime, keep the ice chips or gatorade going and keep him warm but not overheated. Let me know what you find out.
