Question

i have very old style wiring, the new stove comes with the ground plug and is a 4 wire plug . i put a wire into the ground connector on the stove plug and run it to the metal covering on my existing cable that comes from the breaker ,according to my multi meter i have a good connection ,is this acceptable.

Answer

The code changed in the 1990's. If you don't want to upgrade your wiring, then you should run a jumper wire from the neutral connector on the back of the stove to the chasis. Be sure to use 3 prong male and female outlets.
