Question

The short question is: can I find a replacement movement, since we've been unable to find what's wrong with the original? The longer description of the clock is this: a reproduction regulator type wall clock with the name Cornwall on the face. It has a Westminster chime, pendulum, two striker bars with a double striker and uses a "D" battery. I purchased it new around 1973. The original movement only indicates it was made in Japan. The motor still runs the striker.

Answer

Chris, these types of clock movements come and go. The reason I say that is that for some time none with the mechanical chimes could be found. Right now, the closest I could find is one offered by Timesavers (you can use Google or another search engine and they have an On-line catalog). The part number is 18400. Of course there are other good quality quartz chiming movements available that do not have the actual chime rods. When you do choose a movement you have to insure that the hand bushing is the right length to go through the dial correctly, the movement is going to fit in the space allowed and the pendulum will hang properly (front to rear) and will swing properly. The length doesn't matter as it has nothing to do with the timekeeping, but it might have to be modified slightly to fit on the movement pendulum hanger. Good luck and
