I recently added 10 recessed lights to my home. Since the addition, when the new lights are on, the digital clock on the coffee pot gains about 5 minutes per hour. Is this coincidence and only a problem with the time keeping componentry of the clock, or could the clock be a symptom of a serious electrical issue?
It is most likely a coincidence. Hopefully the lighting is not on the same circuit as the coffee pot, because there should be no lighting wired to a kitchen or dining room outlet. You could get a meter and double check the voltage in that outlet to make sure it is near 120. If it is not, then perhaps something is wired in series with something else. But not too likely.
