Question

I have a dimmer switch in a bedroom that I'm not sure is grounging out or just plain done for. On new dim. switch there is no difference for hot or neg., just brass connectors, and green ground connection point. The hot looks to have another wire bound with it, would that be the ground possibly? What is the difference in colors of the braiding?

Answer

On the new dimmer there should be 2 black wires and a ground wire. It does not matter which black wire goes where. One goes to the black power wire, the other to the black wire going to the fixture. The green ground wire should connect to the bare ground wires in the box.
