Excel- comparing 2spreadsheets to find missing records in one

I have 2Files, 1 is static data and the other gathers variable data, and I would like to compare the 2 for the missing information. Can you compare 2 separatefiles or do you have to compare them from the same file? How would I write a formula to compare the data and identify the missing information?

Yes, you can look up data from one sheet and work with it in another. The easiest way to do this is to open both sheets, side-by-side in the same instance of Excel, and then copy and PASTE LINK from one to the other. That will create the link for you and you can use the data in both sheets.

The format to work with data from a different sheet looks like this, for example:
