QuestionEdit

John, I have a Seth Thomas clock with a Hermle Quartz 2215 movement. It is about 5 years old. The pendulum swings and the chimes will sound if I move the hands, but the hands will not move without assistance. There is no binding or obstruction. What could be wrong? Does anything need lubrication? I tried several sets of fresh batteries. Do you know if there is a warranty on this product? Thanks, Mike

AnswerEdit

Mike, this movement really has a good quality sound. I use this series in replacements. Unfortunately, the modern battery powered quartz movements are not economically repairable. Because of this, parts and repair manuals or instructions are not available. The labor fees for repairing one would fast reach or exceed the cost of a replacement movement. The problem with the hands not moving is that there is either an electronic circuit problem or a bad plastic gear or debris in the mechanism. The manufacturers warranty on these is 2 years.
