Question

I have a Howard Miller wind up clock. It has done perfectly until we had to set the time forward 1 hr this year. Now it chimes properly but it is 1 strike ahead on the hour strikes. How do I get it back on course? I thought it would reset itself. I have even allowed it to totally run down and then reset it and wound it - it is still stirking one too many times on the hour.

Answer

Dee, it is possible that when the clock was set ahead it was done with the hour hand. It should be set with the minute hand. To correct this, move the minute hand around until the hour strikes. Count the number of strikes. Carefully slip the hour hand to the number that just struck. Now use the minute hand to set the clock to the correct time. That should do it. If you still have problems, get back with me.
