the formula for arranging positions of students according to their averages from the first to last student that is from highest to lowest average corresponding to students. the averages cells are H2-H10, and positions should be I2-I10.

To get the positions of students you need to use the rank formula. +=RANK(H2,H$2:H$10,0) The formula is in cell I2 and says rank cell H2 as compared to the values in cells H2 thru H10. The 0 in the formula tellsthe ranks should be in descending order. Any other number in its place will rank in ascending order. You can copy this formula down to the cells I3 thru I10.

If you want the list of students to be arranged in order by rank then sort the list (after applying the rank formula) by rank.
