Pendulum on grandfather clock

QUESTION: My pendulum fell out of my grandfather clock...I can not hook it back up...can you help me? I don't know if I lost a part of it or not, but I have the pendulum then a piece that hooks to the pendulum that is about 5 inches long...am I suppose to have any other part? The clock is a ridgeway 3 wt floor clock....thanks...Pat

ANSWER: It looks like you may have broken the suspension spring. Is there a black plastic piece inside the hook of the brass piece? The brass piece is call the leader. In your photo it is upside down. The top of it (if you flip in over from the way it is shown in the photo) hooks onto the suspension spring at the top of the clock movement. The pendulum hangs from the bottom of it. Let me know about the black plastic piece and I'll help you get it back together.

You may not need any more parts than what you have. It looks like the hook at the top of your leader is smashed together. You may need to open it up so that there is about a 1/8" space. That hook goes onto the bottom of the suspension spring. The suspension spring is at the top of the clock movement in the back hanging from a post. You can see a suspension spring on my website at: http://www.norkro.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info%26cPath=1_90%26products_id=323 This is the side view you will see if you look in the side of the clock. The leader hooks onto the pin in the bottom block of the suspension spring. If you get this far and want to put the clock together put the leader through the crutch (the crutch is an arm coming out the back of the movement). Then hook the leader onto the pin at the bottom of the suspension spring. Then hook your pendulum onto the bottom of the leader. Let me know if you need more help.
