Question

I have a claim where there needs to be some work done in a bathtub/shower enclosure. To do this work, the shower door needs to be removed and reinstalled. The public adjuster that is handling this claim is telling me that since the door needs to come off to do the work - it has to be replaced with a door with safety glass. Is this true?

Answer

In a word, YES!

This is an important safety item. Any glass within 5 feet of the tub/shower and within 60 inches of the floor must be approved impact resistant glazing. (safety glass or plastic) This has been a requirement for over 30 years at least.

Every year, people are seriously injured by breaking non-safety glass after a fall in the tub/shower. It is a serious safety violation if left un-handled. There is also huge liability for the installer that does not install safety glass in these locations.

I know there is an extra expense involved but it is important.
