QuestionEdit

I have a brass Salem ship's clock that needs repair. I do not see Salem Company on the net. Can you help? I am no horologist but I think it's the spring.

AnswerEdit

I presume your clock is a ship's chronometer. If so it is a highly complex mechanism, requiring the service of a fully qualified clock repair person. Finding the right person can be a trial. The best I can suggest to you is to contact possible candidates and ask them to give you references of work successfully conducted upon similar items. You might wish to contact the National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors or the American Watchmakers Institute for recommendations. We old men who once comprised the rooster of qualified chronograph repair persons are fast becoming extinct.
