Question

Sligh 0889

I know that you do not, and over the net could not, offer appraisals of clocks. That said, I read in an answer to another person that you do sometimes have values associated with clocks sold at auctions and such... do you have any value information about the following Sligh Grandfather...

Model 0889-1-SH Excellent condition Westminster, Whittington, and St chimes Original Instructions, key and level

Thank you in advance,

Scott

Answer

Scott, I try to be consistant in my answers. I do have books and an Internet subscription service for values on antique values that I share on an individual basis for reference in trading buying or selling. However I do not offer this on the Internet. Modern production clocks are a different story. As I have stated before:

"REQUESTS FOR APPRAISALS

My main Internet contact is through the Allexperts Website. The first statement in my Allexperts personal bio states that I am not a certified appraiser and therefore do not give values of clocks. On what I consider modern production clocks (WWII and later) there are very few of these clocks that have any history of values, as most depreciate with time. The values of a few rare and top line models have risen. Generally, the value of a modern production clock will depend on the original selling price (not necessarily the listed price), the condition of the case and movement, and most importantly, the area in which you are selling the clock, the demand and the economy. I suggest you check listings for a clock similar to yours in local classified listings, selling venues such as Craigslist and Internet auction sites like eBay. I'm sorry I cannot help you."

As an example, I was asked to service and pack up a clock similar to yours at an estated sale. the clock has sold for $1000. Recently, I bought one at an estate sale for $175. Which value would you go by if you were selling.....or buying?

A lady had asked me about an antique clock the other day and I found auction values of very similar clocks that varied in the selling price from $95 to $375. That's why I try to stay away from giving values.
